How Did The Title,The Queen ID, Happen?

The Queen ID name was inspired by an unexpected nickname that stuck with me as I moved in my career.

I used to be an educator for about a decade. A tool of the trade is to use calls to attention. Mine was, “Hear ye, hear ye!” My students would reply, “All hail Queen Johanson.”

Fast forward to when I worked for an institution of higher learning. I was in charge of a summer camp for middle schoolers. We used the informal response to this call to attention – All hail Queen Gretchen. At the end of the camp, the campers put on a showcase for all of the faculty, city leaders, and parents. I was ready to dismiss the campers amid the cacophony of chatter. One last time I yelled, “Hear ye, hear ye!” To the surprise of every adult in the room, the campers responded with, “All hail Queen Gretchen.” That day forward, my colleagues referred to me as Queen Gretchen.

When I began my career as an ID, I shared what a call to attention was with my team because there was excess chatter after PD activities. They did not know about this tool in the corporate world. I gave them my Hear ye, hear ye example and several more corporate appropriate examples. However, Queen Gretchen is how many of them refer to me now.

Founding Member of IDOL Courses Academy

I was in education for over 9 years. I decided to leave education after the stress of the job created anxiety and my health took a serious decline. I wanted to utilize the talents and skills I had developed while I was teaching, but wasn’t quite sure what to look for in the job hunt.

I discovered Instructional Design. It was a perfect fit! I still get to help others learn, but I also get to be creative building training; more specifically developing elearning and multimedia microlearning.

I was trying to bridge the gap of educator and corporate ID on my own when Dr. Robin Sargent (who I was already following on social media) launched IDOL Courses Academy. This was it! It was just what I needed to catapult my efforts and reach my goal of becoming an ID. I signed up when the very first cohort launched. I landed my ID job within 3 short months of diving into the content.

Since that first cohort, I have become a member of the coveted #IDOLmugClub. You can only be part of this club if you have reached your IDOL goals by way of freelancing contract or employed at a company with the title you had hoped for when you joined IDOL. I write content for the IDOL blog which is posted every Thursday.  I have also been actively involved in helping others reach their IDOL goals. That led to me being asked to serve as an IDOL Mentor in an official capacity.
